MUSEUMS ON THE UNSPEAKABLE
This year, the worldwide museum community espouses a thought-provoking theme for the annual International Museum Day (IMD) celebration set on and around the 18th of May. Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums highlights the continued relevance of museums and other cultural institutions as sites of engagement, mediation and possibly even reconciliation when coming into terms with contested moments in histories.
This attempt to activate museums as spaces that allows its audiences to envision a more peaceable society is grounded on encouraging a more open stance in addressing what is deemed “unspeakable”.
On both 18 and 20 May (Thurs and Sat), the Lopez Museum and Library joins other museums in this year’s IMD commemoration. The LML opens its doors for 2 days of free museum admission. Thematic tours featuring the current exhibition “Pauses of Possibility” and select materials from the library collection in relation to the IMD theme will be available on Saturday. Schedules are as follows: 9AM / 10AM / 1PM / 2PM / 3PM.
