On his 80th birth anniversary, the Lopez Museum and Library mounts the exhibit, CONTEXT: ROD PARAS-PEREZ Art Historian, Critic and Writer, to commemorate the eminent scholar’s contributions to Philippine art history and criticism.
Dr. Paras-Perez was the first Filipino to earn a doctorate degree in Art History from Harvard University. He wrote numerous books, monographs, and critical articles on Filipino artists and art forms that have consequently built the body of knowledge on Philippine Art from the 1960s until his death in 2011. For the Eugenio Lopez Foundation, he wrote Sanso: Art Quest between Two Worlds (1988), Fernando Zobel (1990) and Manansala Nudes. Aside from contributing to local and foreign publications, Dr. Paras-Perez was also an award-winning visual artist and had exhibited in Manila and abroad.
The Lopez Museum and Library collaborated with the estate of Dr. Paras-Perez to showcase select writings and memorabilia, which give insight into the man behind the writing. Ateneo Art Gallery will be holding a parallel exhibit that focuses on his art.
The exhibit opens on April 7 and will be on view until May 31, 2014. For more info, call Tina at 631-2417. The Lopez Museum and Library is at the ground floor, Benpres Building, Exchange Road corner Meralco Avenue, Pasig City. Museum days and hours are Mondays-Saturdays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., except holidays.
