Do you like reading comic books? Have you always wondered if you can make some of your own? Do you have stories to tell that you believe you can only tell through words and pictures? Learn the basics of making comic books this summer at YOUTHSOME YARNS TO YEARN FOR: THE BLTX SUMMER KOMIX WORKSHOP 2014! From one-panel cartoons to three-panel strips, from one-page stories to three-page epics, learn to analyse the basic formula of comic book stories, how to make them and how to break them! Also learn how to get your comic books published and sold in stores, conventions, and small press expos!

YOUTHSOME YARNS TO YEARN FOR is a four-day workshop for teenagers and up, full of lectures and discussions about the comic book form, and writing and drawing exercises that are aimed to help develop latent comic book-making skills. The first three days are focussed on particular aspects or forms of comic book narrative, namely the panel, the strip, and the page. By the fourth day, participants are expected to assemble all the results of the exercises and assignments of the first three days into their own personal comic book.

The reading materials are all locally-produced comics, made by some of the Philippine’s youngest, most innovative comic book writer-artists. The facilitators are comic book writer-artist Josel Nicolas and comic book critic Adam David, themselves productive participants and vocal supporters of the local comics community.

Jose Nicolas is a comic book writer-artist, best known for his ongoing comic book autobiography series called WINDMILLS. He is a co-founder and co-editor of THE QUARTERLY BATHROOM COMPANION COMICS COMPENDIUM. He also makes pixel art for games, most recently for PANDESAL BOY.

Adam David is mostly a comic book critic, but he also writes and draws comic books whenever he finds the time. He is a co-founder of the Youth & Beauty Brigade, and is a co-organiser of Better Living Through Xeroxography (BLTX), an annual small press expo. He is also a book designer.

The Lopez Museum and Library is at the ground floor, Benpres Building, Exchange Road corner Meralco Avenue, Pasig City. Museum days and hours are Mondays-Saturdays, 8 am to 5 pm, except holidays.
