Lopez Museum and Library invites everyone to join contemporary artist Mike Adrao as he talks about his experience working on his featured pieces in the current exhibition Complicated on March 1 (Saturday) from 2-4pm.
Adrao will discuss his processes, choice of materials, subject matter, and the challenges and possibilities of art as engagement. The commissioned artworks he produced for the exhibition were heavily influenced by the vast photo archives and the numerous maps such as Carte des Nouvelles Philippines (1753) and Wagner’s Die welkarte (1507) available in the library and museum collection. The eleven pieces he produced during the 11-month research and production were also shaped by the injury he incurred while working on the painstakingly intricate details, prompting one to ask how the artist coped and dealt with the situation.
Mike Adrao completed his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (major in Studio Arts) at the University of the Philippines. He has held solo exhibitions at Tin-aw Art Gallery, Project Space Philipinas, and most recently, at this year’s Southeast Asia Platform of Art Stage Singapore. His works have also been show in exhibitions in Korea and Malaysia. Adrao has been awarded artist residencies by NEAR Dangsang in Seaoul, Korea and Project Space Pilipinas in Mandaluyong City.
Registration fee for the lecture (Adults Php 120.00, students Php 100.00) includes admission to the exhibition.
