On 27 April from 4-6 pm, spend an afternoon engaging in classical music, contemporary art, and literature at the Lopez Museum and Library. Organized in partnership with High Chair to celebrate the birth month of National Artist for Music/Literature Levi Celerio, “Off the Ground” will treat visitors to a poetry reading by Raymond John de Borja, Marlon Hacla, and Franz Joel Libo-on, whose newest books, they day daze, Glossolalia, and Humigit-Kumulang will also be launched during the event. Soprano Elainne Marie Vibal will sing select songs penned by Levi Celerio songs while accompanied by a quintet of music scholars from the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth.
Also on display is the museum’s latest exhibition, Grounded, which juxtaposes works of guest contemporary artists Alma Quinto, Goldie Poblador, Josephine Turalba, Toym Imao, Eric Zamuco, Barbara Hlali, Khaled Hafez, and Ahmed El Shaer with works from the Lopez Museum collection such as those of Juan Luna and Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, Fernando Amorsolo, Jose Joya, Nena Saguil, just to name a few.
High Chair is a non-profit small press that seeks to promote genuine interest in poetry in the country through print and online publication, lectures and conversations, community workshops, and the development of poetry-teaching modules for use in the classroom and the community. Orchestra of the Filipino Youth is an after-school program that offers opportunities for children from deprived communities to achieve their full musical potential.
