Artists’ Talk on August 7: Cajipe-Endaya and Abaya
Lopez Memorial Museum welcomes New York-based social realist Imelda Cajipe-Endaya and award winning contemporary artist Leo Abaya, who will discuss art and cultural engagement on August 7 (Saturday) from 2 to 4 pm, Cajipe-Endaya and Abaya will discuss their processes, choice of materials, subject matter and the challenges and possibilities of art as engagement.
Cajipe-Endaya is a painter, printmaker, mixed media and installation artist. A co-founder of KASIBULAN women’s art collective, Cajipe Endaya explores issues of cultural identity and the ironies of women’s social spaces. She has also initiated publications and art projects with Pananaw: Philippine Journal of Visual Arts. Now based in New York, sheremains active with curatorial projects, editing tasks and designing publications on Philippine art and culture.
Abaya is a painter, production and set designer and graphic designer. He has won an award for Bakit Kay tagal ng Sandali?. Abaya has curated shows for various galleries in Manila and active in doing research and education, being a professor at the UP College of Fine Arts.
Artists’ Talk complements the ongoing exhibition “After the Fact”, which runs until September 18, 2010. The exhibit evokes recollections of the museum’s past exhibitions as well as a purview of the institution’s future direction. It features key works from its collection and works by Cajipe-Endaya and Abaya as well as contemporary artists Gaston Damag, Antipas Delotavo, Keith Sicat, Jeffrey Carnay, Kiri Dalena, Ann Tiukinhoy Pamintuan, Claro Ramirez, Jean Marie Syjuco and Ann Wizer.
