Lopez Memorial Museum and Ortigas Foundation Library
August 18, 2009
Seventy-five public school teacher-librarians from Pasig, Quezon City, Bulacan, Cavite and Manila took part in the 9th Teacher-Librarian Seminar last August 18. Support for the seminar from Jollibee Corporation, Adarna House, Hot Loops, Universal Robina Corporation, Robinsons Malls, Gokongwei Brothers Foundation enabled the participants to attend for free. With the theme “Equipping Teacher-Librarians Today Build Our Libraries For Tomorrow”, the seminar aimed to impart knowledge and develop skills in the participants so that they will be better able maximize their resources and develop life-long users of such resources in the students and the colleagues they serve.
The morning session was held at the Lopez Memorial Museum while the afternoon session was held at the Ortigas Foundation Library. In these locations, the participants were also able to see the operations of the libraries. They heard about book conservation from chemist-conservator Maita Reyes and from National Artist for Literature Francisco Sionil Jose. Managing the Library Collection in general and the possibilities of the internet were also discussed, the latter by Mr Fernan Dizon of the Ateneo de Manila University Library.
The Teacher-Librarian Seminar is an annual seminar spearheaded by the Robinsons Children’s Library, with partners Lopez Memorial Museum and the Ortigas Foundation Library, to provide free lectures and workshops to elementary and high school public school teachers-librarians.
