Make your old books look like new. Restoring old books can actually pare down your book budget for younger children or siblings.
As part of its advocacy to teach techniques on preservation and conservation, the Lopez Memorial Museum is offering a Classical Bookbinding workshop for three Saturdays on August 8, 15 and 22, from 9am to 12 noon. Fee is P5,500 including materials.
Facilitated by Loreto Apilado of the Cottage Industry Technology Center, the workshop includes the proper use of hand tools and basic equipment and the correct application of raw materials. The total duration of the course is nine hours, 80% of which is for the development of applicable skills and 20% for the acquisition of knowledge, latest trends on designs and applications.
Apilado conducted seminars on papermaking, book arts and conservation here and abroad. He has been in charge of teaching papermaking, paper crafts, bookbinding; designing tools and equipment for such workshops; and researching on and disseminating information on matters related to such topics.
The workshop will be held at the Lopez Museum located at the ground floor of Benpres bldg., Ortigas Center, Pasig. Call Fanny or Jane at 631-2417.
