The variety of artistic expressions in the Philippine visual art scene is made possible by many things (“Crossbred and Émigré: Visual Art in a Flux
” by Eileen Legaspi-Ramirez
). One of these is the artists’, art institutions’ and art audiences’ willingness to recognize that categories such as painting, video, etc. are tools for understanding. What is there to understand? One is the negotiations that occur between artists and their materials, that of materials and techniques, and subject matter. Blur
, an exhibition featuring some works from the Lopez Memorial Museum and works of contemporary artists Jose Tence Ruiz
and Lyra Abueg Garcellano
, will try to see how far the willingness mentioned above will go, and the kind of encounters that occur and their results. Exhibition opens on October 27, 2007 and runs till April 5, 2008.
